Phuket, pronounced “poock-get”, is Thailand's largest island measuring roughly 550 square kilometers, making it about the same size as Singapore in terms of area. Phuket is a province unto itself and is the kingdom's only island province.
Phuket lies approximately 860 kilometers south of Thailand along the country's Andaman Sea coast, and is bordered to the north by Phang Nga province to which it is connected to by Sarasin and Thepkassatri bridges.
As well as being the kingdom's largest island, Phuket is also its most visited with over 3 million visitors annually. The island is served by Phuket International Airport, located in the far north of the island, which has regular flights from destinations around Asia and Europe, daily domestic flights as well as many charters. There are taxis and minibuses at the airport for transfers to Patong.
